Buddha's Birthday (Varies in April or May) Solemn rituals are held at Buddhist temples across the country. The day's festivities reach their climax. when monks and laymen march through city streets with beautiful paper lanterns. This holiday is working day or holiday. Because of according to the lunar calendar. when I was in children, following march buddist. pretty fun! (No school is important to me) At that time, I can walking in the midddle of street. That reason is attactive to me .
Christmas (December 25) Christmas Day is an also official holiday. Half of Koreans who claim a religion are Christian. As I know many Asian countries, December 25 is not a holiday at all. That's why I'd like to intruduce this holiday. No school is cool! After grow up, This day too busy. but fun. I have to buy gift for kids and meet many groups compulsorily. We called it ending of year meeting. Many korean gathering meeting outside. regardless religion.
Chu-seok" is natinal holiday in Korea.It's a kind of Korean Thanksgiving day.which falls on August 15 of the lunar calendar.In other Languages "Chu Suk" is called "Han Gah Wee." The word "Han" means "Big!" and the words "Gah Wee" means in the center.These words originated a long time ago.So the Korean is all happy this day. Because "Chusok" is a period where separated family members gather to share their lives while enjoying the newly harvested grains and fruits.The most important activites done at "Chuisok" is to give thanks to ancestors and also to give thanks to Mother Nature for providing a bountiful harvest.
In Taiwan has Mid-Autumn Festival day. The date is august 15th in Chinese’s calendar that is very like thanksgiving day in America. Today, the moon will become full moon that is mean family will be reunion. Many people will come back home with their family and have B.B.Q party in this date. Many stories about Mid-Autumn Festival day. One story said that one man need continue to chop the cassia tree, when the tree drops down that he could back to his home. But when the tree almost breaks that he gives up. He feels tired, so the tree’s crack will close again. Right now, he still breaks the tree in the moon. We will make a pastry. The snack has egg-yolk and red soy on inside. It’s very great to eat that the egg-yolk like moon. We eat shaddock and use the fruit’s skin to make hat. It’s very funny. This is very important date in Taiwan.
"Tet " holiday is the most important traditional festival in Vietnam. It's the Vietnamese New Year which is based on lunar calendar. During this time, the people visit their relatives with happiness and go to the temples, forgetting all the troubles of the past and hoping for a good health, good luck, and good prosperity for this upcoming year. There are three periods in “Tet”, known as “Tat Nien”(before New Year’s eve ), “Giao thua” ( New year eve ), “Nam moi” ( The New Year ). “Tat Nien” is the time for Vietnamese to prepare “Tet”. There is a long list which has a lot of things to do. Everyone is busy going shopping, decorating the house, cooking traditional foods for “Tet” and waiting relatives return home. In this time, the streets and markets are full of people. Parents buy new clothes for their children. Everyone buy plants and beautiful flowers to make their home more colorful. The most familiar flowers, plants in this holiday are peach, Apricot, Kumquat. They also buy a lot of fruits which are Custard Apple, Coconut, Papaya, and Mango. Each fruit conveys different meanings. Besides, almost family cook the variety holiday foods such as “ banh Chung”, “ banh day “, “mien ga”. In the day leading up for “Tet”, everyone clean their house and thoroughly their altar. Family members prepare “Tet” together. They always sit around the fire which is used to cook “ Banh chung”, “Banh Day” overnight, telling each other about memories, and experiences last year. In New Year eve, the host of family always put the foods, flowers, fruits on the altar to show their respect to their ancestor. All of members in the family sit together to watch New Year TV shows or go outside to watch fireworks. In the center street of the city, they hold a lot of events for celebrating New Year. The street is full of beautiful flowers. All of people are looking forward to welcome New Year. The first New Year day is reserved for family. The adults give lucky money for children. This tradition means “happy new age”. The members in family give each other best wishes for this year. They spend this meaningful time to eat and share happiness together. In the second day, they visit their friends. Next day is often for their teacher. During subsequent day, they go to the temples to pray, to give donation and to get the fortunes. Especially, the children often write something in their paper in the first day of year. They think it make them feel more powerful for their hard studying and get a good grades in this year. The street in the New Year is few people. It just has the dragon dancers perform to welcome New year. “Tet” is the most popular holiday in Vietnam. It’s the opportunity for everyone expresses their love with their family and their friends. This time is the most meaningful moment to get over the pains, remain the happiness in the past and start the future with hope and belief. This is the most beautiful tradition ever in Vietnam.
Do you know all of you Coming-of-Age Day in Japan? First,it is a Japanese historic holiday in Coming-of-Age Day. With the Coming-of-Age Day, it is a day to do celebration of a person come of age. In Japan, it is an adult from 20 years old. It is the second Monday of January every year. Second, a coming-of-age ceremony is performed in each place on that day. The woman of 20 years old wears a kimono, and the man attends in a suit.I gather with the classmate of an elementary school and the junior high school and eat afterwards. Because I will go back to Japan at one time so that I will attend next year. I will look forward to meeting a friend very.
Tet, the Vietnamese new year. It was influenced by China for many years. Therefore, the Chinese New Year and Tet, the Vietnamese New Year have many similarities. Tet is the abbreviation of Tet Nguyen Dan which means the first morning of the first day of the new period. Tet marks the beginning of a new year on the lunar calendar, and the beginning of Spring. Tet is a huge celebration lasting three days. Families save money, store food, and plan far in advance for Tet, major holiday in Vietnam. The Vietnamese take extreme care to start the New Year out right. They buy new clothes, paint and clean their homes, cook three days worth of food, pay off all debts and make amends to rid themselves of all bad feelings. Cleaning is frowned on during Tet because one would not want to sweep out any good luck. The red envelopes are passed with "lucky money" in it. Greeting cards and good luck symbols are hung from the Tet trees. Next year i will have a new year in the us. In San Jose large populations of Vietnamese. It's great!
Tanabata festival Just like American’s Valentine’s Day, in China, we also have our own Valentine's Day --- Tanabata festival, which is also called "girl's Day", "daughter of festival”. It is not only the most romantic holiday of traditional Chinese festival, but also puts great emphasis on girls over the past day. The Tanabata festival is according to a romantic legend. A beautiful fairy named Vega fall in love with a guy named Cowherd. They married and promised with each other forever together. Because of the huge different position, they have to be forced to break up with each other. According to the legal sanction of heaven, they are only allowed to meet each other on every July 7th per year, which is in order to prevent they live together. It is a so sad and romantic legend, so every July 7th is seen as Chinese Valentine’s Day --- Tanabata festival.
if you want to celebrate holiday in china. i think new year is good holiday, because you have long time to relax your life and you can go to outside. it has many beautiful cloths to sell for people. in china, people always think people need wear new cloths, you should be have luck in this year. new year, people have a week or 15 days holiday. so people can see each other at house, some people like play majiang at house, but teennager like to sing at KTV, or girl like go to shopping, because family can give lots of money to use, boy like to play games. so i like new year in china
There is a famous holiday ’Chu seok’ in Korea. The chu seak is August 15 by lunar calendar in fall. Original meaning of this holiday is having thanks for harvest for this year. People have memorial service to ancestor, so they prepare the table with fresh fruits and food with all their heart. Some of people wear han-bok that is traditional clothes in Korea. Also,we meet relatives and spend great time. Nowadays, people have busy life, so they don’t have enough time with relatives. And this holiday is a opportunity to meet my family and relatives for a year.
ger-ge-aan is the named os spicial day in 15th of 9th month in lunar calender,children celebrate in this day by visit different houses with there culture colorful cloths and they sing a song about the candy.they get candy after they sing the song it is so interesting and it fun. evry family should give them candy or they will sing anathor song aganist this stingy house. there is more surprises inside the candy specialy money it up to $100. when i was in six i got about $300 ,but i shareded with my friend to by more candy. :-)
In korea, I would like to tell you about New-year day. we called it 'SUL NAL'. At that time, many people who married and children wear traditional clothes. Also, we can eat dilicious tradition foods. They talk with family who did not meet each other long time such as uncle,aunt and cousin. After eat lunch together, we play tradition games and we look our young to do cute tricks.There are traffic jam because many people move to their family's house. That is kind of culture of 'SUL NAL'.
